Susan Bonin Ends 20-Year Career With NJBankers
By W. Stuart Cameron
Susan Bonin, executive director of the NJBA Service Corp. and liaison to affiliate members, will retire effective June 30 after exactly 20 years with NJBankers. She began her NJBankers career on July 1, 1985, as a benefits clerk for the NJBA Insurance Fund working for the then-director Eric Finsen.

Upon Finsen’s retirement in 1992, Susan succeeded him as executive director of the fund. Susan remained as executive director when the fund was incorporated into the newly formed for-profit entity, the NJBA Service Corp., in August 1995.

A Pennsylvania native, Susan graduated from Lower Merion High, Ardmore in 1952 and completed her associate degree at Drexel in 1954. Upon graduation she went to work for IBM in Philadelphia and later Kramer-Trenton in clerical capacities.

In 1956 she married the late Gerald Bonin and raised three wonderful daughters, Ellen, Wendy and Randi. In 1976 she returned to the workforce and worked for a short stint with the N.J. Lottery Commission before entering the world of banking. She worked for several years at the former Ewing Bank and Trust (now part of Bank of America), where she rose from bank teller to branch manager prior to joining the NJBA Insurance Fund.
