The Maine Association of Community Banks was recognized at the Governor’s Annual Affordable Housing Conference on Sept. 21 for its outstanding contributions to affordable housing.
In describing the rationale for the award, the Maine State Housing Authority stated:
“Throughout the many years of this partnership [between MSHA and the lending community], Maine’s community banks have stood at the forefront of the first-time homebuyer program. While some have changed names over the years, a handful of banks have been nearly constant partners and continue to be among the top lenders today. These community banks include such familiar names as Androscoggin Bank, Bangor Savings Bank, Franklin Savings Bank, Gardiner Savings Institution, Machias Savings Bank, Peoples Heritage and Skowhegan Savings Bank.
“Community banks have been more than just partners in delivering loans. They also have supported MSHA and its mission on critical housing issues ... The Maine Association of Community Banks offered key support for the expansion of MSHA’s bond limit, which has enabled MSHA to grow and meet current demands.”
